Sitra - Innovation Programme 2004

As a result of Sitra’s Innovation Programme, a common goal was agreed by all players in the sector: that Finland must be at the spearhead of innovation. The Innovation Programme launched many projects aimed at advancing this goal. Sitra seeks to ensure that the innovation environment continues to maintain its high standard and remains capable of producing competitive products and of attracting investments, enterprises and experts to Finland in the future.

Sitra’s Innovation Programme (2004–2006) succeeded in creating a shared goal for the actors of the sector: making Finland a leader in innovation activity. The programme launched several projects to further this goal.Sitra’s work in developing the Finnish innovation environment will be continued by the new Innovations and New Solutions unit, launched in spring 2007.

Reaching this goal requires that Finland has

social structures corresponding to future challenges
top-level education, research and development
a globally competitive and networked corporate sector
attractive internationalised regional centres
skilled and motivated individuals
a social atmosphere that encourages entrepreneurship.

In order to achieve this objective, the Innovation Programme involves pilot and development projects, research projects and studies.
Finland and its people can succeed in the future only if

our society is creative and capable of renewal
we offer a competitive and flexible operating environment to enterprises and
we produce and utilise the latest know-how and innovations better and more quickly than the others.
