A renewing countryside – enabling success
Citizens' comprehensive well-being and sustainable development solutions are the future success factors for of Finland. The objective of the five-year Landmarks Programme is to increase the well-being obtained by Finns from a renewing countryside and to strengthen the significance of the countryside when developing commercial and social operational models aiming to achieve sustainable development.
Courageous views and innovative operational models
The Landmarks Programme provides and disseminates impartial information to support social decision-making, while developing and testing new operational models and accelerating new business activity. The objectives will be met by boldly looking for different views and promoting innovative operations, under the following themes: Focus on people The countryside as a source of well-being
Products, services and empowerment opportunities provided by the countryside are major sources of well-being for Finns. The Landmarks Programme develops new methods for identifying, measuring and reinforcing the significance of the countryside in the individual well-being of Finns. The programme promotes the establishment of demand-based services and companies, and the public sector is also challenged to join this mission. The development is based on a human approach, catering to the needs and demand of citizens, as well as on regional differentiation.
"Glocal" thinking Eco-efficient decentralised solutions
Global responsibility, competitiveness and local services require eco-efficiency. The Landmarks Programme will establish the eco-efficiency of decentralised operations and create business models for sustainable development which are also of international interest. New solutions are required in housing, energy production and logistics, for example.
Resources reviewed Natural resources as new business opportunities
The unique natural resources of the countryside are a source of wealth for Finland, and the global value of such resources is on the rise. The resources provide new opportunities for business based on sustainable development. The Landmarks Programme will discover new business opportunities built on an innovative use of natural resources, intangible values, and the local bio-economy, for example.
The aim of is to employ transparent and interactive approaches, and various projects can be financed and implemented through the programme: reports, tests or demonstrations, foresight or strategy processes, communications and networking projects, business development and venture capital investment.
