Growth Programme for the Mechanical Industry 2008–2011

Finnish companies have successfully manufactured machinery and other metal products for the global market. The mechanical industry has a significant multiple impact on the society. Finnish machinery companies have to react quickly to the change in the market. Subcontracting networks require increasingly extensive company entities.

As the largest employer and contributor to prosperity, the Finnish mechanical/metal product industry is facing a change. Cost pressures are rising, and manufacturing is relocated closer to customers, the location of which is steered by the changing global work distribution. Also the suppliers of components and systems have to be able to manage international business. In more and more cases, it is not enough that only the main suppliers manufacturing the end-product engage in global operations. In-house manufacturing is required in different locations outside Finland. The procurement business is international work.

The objectives of the programme are:
  • as an investor and an active owner, to enable the establishment of three to five international system suppliers
  • provide new, concrete information on future operating models between customer and supplier companies and on the development of technologies in the global market
  • promote genuine co-operation between the industry’s Finnish and international operators
