By scaling up just 15 proven Nordic solutions, countries all over the world can save as much in emissions as the EU produces today.
Low-carbon success stories to inspire the world
For years, governments have said reducing climate emissions is too expensive or difficult. As a result, governments offer carbon cuts far below what is required, creating a so-called “emissions gap”.
An international project Green to Scale assessed in 2015 what would happen if the best existing climate solutions from around the world were scaled up to other countries. The results were released on 19 November 2015 in Washington, DC – and they were both surprising and exciting. Scaling up just 17 existing climate solutions could cut global emissions by 25%.
In 2016, we calculated, how much emissions reductions could be achieved by scaling up 15 Nordic climate solutions. The results were released on 16 November 2016 at the COP22 in Marrakech. Scaling up just 15 proven Nordic climate solutions could cut global emissions by 4 Gt by 2030. For this Nordic Green to Scale study, Sitra teamed up with the Nordic Council of Ministers and renowned institutions from all other Nordic countries.
