PDAC Convention

  • March 1, 2015 at 9:00 am - March 4, 2015 at 3:30 pm

Toronto in Canada annually hosts the world’s largest convention for the mineral exploration and development industry. The PDAC convention gathers over 25 000 people from more than 100 countries to discuss issues relevant to the mining industry, including technology, CSR (corporate social responsibility) and the indigenous communities.

The Finnish Network for Sustainable Mining will be visiting Canada on an trip that also covers the PDAC conference. In its presentation, the network will focus on the development of multi-stakeholder co-operation networks at the national and local level in Finland, as well as their complementarity, advantages and challenges. The presentation will be made by the vice-chair of the network Sylvie Fraboulet-Jussila from Sitra, and Anita Alajoutsijärvi, Manager Sustainability & Quality from Agnico-Eagle Finland Ltd’s Kittilä Mine.

In addition to the convention, the network and its chairperson Hannele Pokka will be meeting their Canadian counterpart, Mining Association of Canada’s Community of Interest Advisory Panel, as well as representatives from local companies, nature conservation organisations and indigenous communities. See the Network’s excursion programme for more information on the excursion.

In addition to the Finnish Network for Sustainable Mining, a large number of other Finnish organisations will be present in Toronto including Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), Invest in Finland, the Finnish Funding Agency for Innovation Tekes, the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes), the Ministry for Employment and the Economy and a number of Finnish mining and technology companies. The presentations and exhibition booths for Team Finland can be found from our brochure Meet Team Finland at PDAC 2015.
