Fund investments – a window to the world

With investments in more than 40 venture capital funds, Sitra has an extensive network of international and domestic partners. Most of the funds invest in early-stage companies. This extensive network enables us to anticipate technological and business trends and create contacts that help Finnish companies expand abroad.

We have also established a cooperation network which benefits the economy in Finland. By sharing experiences and processing and applying information, we foster the development of business sectors that are important for future success. We also boost domestic business by investing in Finnish funds.

Focus on added social value

We invest in venture capital funds mainly in Sitra’s strategic areas, aiming to create well-being for Finns through new business and growth. We seek to overcome the bottlenecks of economic growth, including inadequate capital for Finnish start-ups and small companies, and we also invest in the creation and development of cross-sectoral business areas.

Our investments combine generating financial profit with creating added value for Finnish society. We also look for new opportunities to develop the Finnish venture capital industry.

Investments in Finnish funds

We use investments to create new financing models and boost new business at the interface of both the public and private sectors. This is always in accordance with Sitra’s strategic areas. Through the latter, for example, we promote better financing opportunities for early-stage technology companies.

Investments in international funds

Sitra invests in international funds to enhance the competitive edge of Finnish companies and to create a window to the international financial market. We collaborate closely with funds to learn about new practices, collect information, introduce new skills and bring new capital to Finland by helping domestic companies develop into attractive investments.
