Energy Efficiency & Behaviour Conference 2012:

The latest research results and experiences on improving end-user energy efficiency

The international conference on September 20th – 21st, 2012 in Helsinki investigates the role of consumption behaviour, regulatory steering and support mechanisms, and innovative user-friendly solutions in terms of their contribution to energy efficiency and sustainable development.

Consumption routines and behaviour have a significant influence on whether we manage to reach European energy efficiency targets. Consumers are in need of knowledge and skills,  empowerment, and tools and services for making energy saving a part of their daily life.

The European research community is active in integrative research on sustainable development, energy efficiency and consumption behaviour. Researchers are welcomed to the conference to present their research findings and experiences to authorities, companies and organisations working with end-user groups. We particularly welcome examples of successful and practical product and service innovations that promote energy efficiency among consumers and other end-user groups.

The conference brings together research and practice

The conference aims to gather some 150 participants working on energy efficiency and behaviour from research institutes, authorities, companies, organisations and networks throughout Europe and beyond. The conference venue, formerly a cable factory, “Kaapelitehdas” in Helsinki, provides an inspirational environment for experience exchange and networking.

Learn more about the conference, how to submit an abstract and register for the event at the conference website www.behave2012.info. The conference is a follow-up to the 1st European Conference on Energy Efficiency and Behaviour held in the Netherlands in October 2009.

Motiva is in charge of the practical organisation of the event. In the organising committee Motiva is assisted by prominent European behaviour researchers and professionals: Research Professor Eva Heiskanen of Finnish Consumer Research Centre, Professor Ruth Rettie of Kingston University, UK, Senior Researcher Michael Ornetzeder of the Institute of Technology Assessment of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Senior Lead/Consumer Behaviour Vesa-Matti Lahti of Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund.

The conference is financially supported by SITRA, the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy, Ministry of the Environment, Ministry of Transport and Communications and Helsingin Energia, a major energy company in Finland.
