Envisioning the new Finnish information society is open to all

The Ministry of Transport and Communications has started working on renewing the Finnish information society strategy. Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, is participating in the strategy work by renewing the vision part of the strategy. We are hoping that the citizens of Finland will make a significant contribution to this work. Everyone can take part in writing a draft of the new vision at www.foresight.fi.

– One of Sitra’s present goals is to promote information society solutions which genuinely serve citizens and users and have transparency as their foundation. Thus, existing resources and ideas can be utilised better, as different parties of society can participate in the work extensively. We hope that this will be visible in the information society vision, saysOssi Kuittinen, who is in charge of Sitra’s information society work, believes that a vision worked out by a large group of participants will include new ideas and fresh points of view.

The idea is that extensive discussions can be had online and in communities, and different discussions will be linked together in the Foresight.fi forum. The vision draft will be open to be worked on from October 8, 2009 at the Foresight.fi website, which also has detailed information about how the work will continue.

Foresight.fi is a forum co-ordinated by the National Foresight Network for citizens, decision-makers and experts interested in future discourse. Links to views on the information society can be added to the forum until October 16, and reports of the topics coming up in the citizens’ discussions will be made for the use of the group working on the vision draft.

The completed vision draft will be made available for additional discussion in the Foresight.fi forum on October 26, 2009. The strategy will be worked on also in its later stages in the Foresight.fi forum.
