Ekotaajama project

Closed project

9/2010 - 6/2012

The main goal of the Ekotaajama project is to model the process of zoning, designing, marketing and building a resident-oriented and energy-efficient residential area. The concept piloted in the project will also be specified into a product that will be applied elsewhere.

The project is being implemented by six municipalities in Central Finland: Jyväskylä, Jämsä, Petäjävesi, Multia, Toivakka and Kannonkoski. Energy reports, energy master plans, resident profiles and area brands will be prepared for the areas during the implementation. The project determines residential area-specific energy classification systems on the basis of emission calculation by taking cost efficiency into account, and verifies the classifications in the pilot areas.

The project will result in tools for taking area-specific energy efficiency goals into account in zoning. The purpose of energy reports and master plans is to find out the area-specific energy category of the area (cf. the energy categories of houses) and seek the most optimal energy production methods for them. The project will verify that the energy consumption of residents can be decreased through zoning.

The project will increase the appeal of the involved municipalities, provide them with more taxpayers and help them establish an environmentally sound image. Residential satisfaction of the municipalities will also improve and business will bloom.
