Matti Aistrich

Senior Lead

I develop Finnish business.

I have been a Sitran since 2010. My responsibilities have included leading the strategic intelligence function, improving the startup ecosystem, and developing new focus areas for Sitra.

As head of strategic intelligence I was in charge of Sitra’s foresight activities and redesigned and coordinated the National Foresight Network. I continue to be one of the organizers of foresight forums for the CEOs of the Finnish Strategic Centers for Science, Technology and Innovation (abbreviated as SHOKs in Finnish) each quarter.

I have participated in developing new focus areas for in Sitra. These include the Sustainable Economy theme, in which we look for ways to advance economically, ecologically, and socially sustainable business, the Sharing Economy topic for the sharing of valuable resources, and Sustainable mining council activities aimed at creating management systems and sustainability indicators for the mining industry through open dialogue with their stakeholders.

I have been in charge of following the changes in the Arctic and the Finnish mining industry as well as scouting for new business opportunities for Finland and developing tools for the business development unit.

My previous lives before Sitra have been both in the private sector and in academia. I have worked in general management, sales, marketing and project management in the IT industry in the early 90s, in strategy consulting both as an independent operator as well as at The Boston Consulting Group, and in professing the joys of capitalism to American youth as a business professor in the United States.

I am a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) from Harvard (2002). My dissertation was on global account management. My BBA and MBA degrees are from international programs at the Helsinki School of Economics (now the Aalto University School of Business). While at Sitra I have passed the Approved Board Member exam (“HHJ” in Finnish) offered by the Chamber of Commerce.

I am at Sitra on a fixed term contract that runs until the end of 2013.
