The Futures Barometer explores how people in Finland perceive the future. It aims to bring futures perspectives — as well as people’s thoughts and hopes for what lies ahead — into public debate ahead of the elections.
In the 2025 Futures Barometer, we are for the first time highlighting the views of municipal and regional decision-makers alongside a broad public survey. What worries people about the future? What inspires them? And what kinds of developments should we pay more attention to?
In a time marked by uncertainty, overlapping crises and increasingly divergent futures, this topic is more important than ever. The 2025 Futures Barometer is the fourth of its kind. The previous edition, published in 2023, focused on young people: what do they think about the future and their ability to influence it? Earlier Futures Barometers were published in 2019 and 2021.
