Administration

As a fund directly accountable to the Finnish Parliament, our decision-making processes are tied to parliamentary systems. Our administration includes a Supervisory Board, Board and President.

Sitra’s administrative bodies

The core of Sitra’s administration consists of the Supervisory Board, Board of Directors and President. 

Supervisory Board

The Supervisory Board is appointed by the Finnish Parliament, and it monitors Sitra’s management and makes decisions on operational principles.

The members of the Supervisory Board are: 

  • Mika Lintilä, Member of the Parliament, Chair (Centre Party)
  • Mika Kari, Member of the Parliament, Vice Chair (The Social Democratic Party)
  • Janne Jukkola, Member of the Parliament (The National Coalition Party)
  • Pihla Keto-Huovinen, Member of the Parliament (The National Coalition Party)
  • Sari Sarkomaa, Member of the Parliament (The National Coalition Party)
  • Laura Huhtasaari, Member of the Parliament (Finns Party)
  • Ari Koponen, Member of the Parliament (Finns Party)
  • Veijo Niemi, Member of the Parliament (Finns Party)
  • Miapetra Kumpula-Natri, Member of the Parliament (The Social Democratic Party)
  • Antti Kaikkonen, Member of the Parliament (Centre Party)
  • Oras Tynkkynen, Member of the Parliament (The Greens)
  • Mai Kivelä, Member of the Parliament (Left Alliance)

The secretary to the Supervisory Board is senior advisor Jorma Jaalivaara (Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws).

Board of Directors

Sitra’s Board prepares and presents the matters to be decided by the Supervisory Board and is responsible for the general management of the fund. The rest of Sitra’s personnel are appointed by the President. 

At the moment, the Board of Directors consists of seven members. The Board serves a term of two years from 2026 to 2027, and its members are:

  • Minna Kivimäki, State Secretary for EU Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Office, Vice Chair
  • Keijo Hämäläinen, President, University of Tampere
  • Timo Jaatinen, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment
  • Ilona Lundström, Phd (Public Management)
  • Juha Majanen, Permanent Secretary, The Ministry of Finance
  • Inka Mero, M.Sc. in Economics and Business Administration, Founder and Managing Partner of Voima Ventures VC fund

Ruija Rantala-Saajo, Legal Counsel, Strategic Management Support and Legal Affairs, acts as secretary to the Board.

President

The President of Sitra oversees its operations. Atte Jääskeläinen, Master of Laws, Doctor of Science (Economics and Business Administration), has served as President of Sitra since August 2023.

Sitra’s President manages the administration of the fund and develops its operations, in line with the instructions and stipulations provided by the Supervisory Board and the Board of Directors. Measures and decisions of an extraordinary qualitative or quantitative nature must be referred to the Board.
