Funding call: Wellbeing solutions for young people’s everyday lives
Sitra is launching a funding call for projects that aim to strengthen young people’s wellbeing and agency in their daily lives. Itla Children’s Foundation will act as an expert partner in the call. The application period ends on 30 May 2025 at 12:00 noon.
What is it about?
Sitra and Itla Children’s Foundation want to jointly promote the wellbeing of young people, as the wellbeing of children and youth is essential for a thriving democracy, a sustainable economy, and a future-oriented Finland. In the age of an aging population and limited resources, there is a growing need for innovative, impactful, and cost-effective solutions that address both current and future wellbeing challenges faced by young people.
Although most Finnish youth report being satisfied with their lives and optimistic about the future, there are concerning signs of declining wellbeing, increasing disparities, and diminishing belief in the future. Young people’s experiences of wellbeing vary, for example, by gender, minority background, and family circumstances.
Agency and belief in the future are crucial for youth wellbeing and key factors in life satisfaction. They lay the foundation for strengthening human capital as well as for the sustainable development and growth of society. Yet many young people feel they have no influence over matters that affect them.
Sitra has opened a funding call for projects that develop solutions to improve young people’s wellbeing and agency in everyday life. The solution must already be in the implementation phase, or applicants must demonstrate that it will move into implementation during the project and has the potential to become an established and impactful practice after Sitra’s funding ends.
- Sitra’s total funding for the projects can be approximately €500,000, which will be distributed among 1–3 projects (maximum funding for a single project is €500,000).
- The project must be a joint initiative. Two or more organizations must apply together (a consortium), and at least one organization in the consortium must be a wellbeing services county, municipality, joint municipal authority, or a government agency.
- Sitra’s funding share can be up to 70% of the total project costs.
- Projects funded by Sitra must be completed by 30 May 2026 at the latest.
Sitra will grant the funding and implement the call in cooperation with Itla Children’s Foundation. Sitra and Itla will provide content-related support and regular sparring for the projects. Specific roles in supporting the project will be agreed upon during the funding negotiations.
