Do you want to join our team of top professionals and build a sustainable future for Finland with climate and nature solutions? Apply by 16 August 2020!

We are living in the middle of the sixth mass extinction. Ecological reconstruction is a matter of urgency. In addition to mitigating global warming, we must find solutions for slowing down biodiversity loss and reinforcing the vitality of nature. We want to develop and apply these solutions in Finland and export them to the global arena. Achieving this involves using a wide range of tools: looking into technical solutions, legislation and economic steering methods that make it possible to change the operating models and structures in society and thus create preconditions for future sustainable well-being.

Sitra’s Climate solutions project has promoted climate actions since 2018. We have achieved a lot but there is still much more to be done.

As of 1 July 2020, our team has refocused its activities, concentrating now not only on climate solutions but also on biodiversity loss. The new name of the team is “Climate and nature solutions” and we are now looking for two specialists for fixed-term employment until 31 August 2022.

The specialists will support the team’s activities focusing on nature solutions. In this position, you will be responsible for the planning and execution of various reports and studies related to nature solutions and for communicating their results in co-operation with other team members and external partners.

What we expect from you

To work successfully in the position, you must have a thorough understanding of biodiversity questions, especially from the perspective of societal decision-making. For example, you understand how economic and societal impacts are assessed, what kinds of societal impacts biodiversity loss has and how biodiversity loss can be prevented while promoting biodiversity with societal steering methods.

You have experience of demanding project work, excellent analytical skills and the ability to grasp complex entities and chains of impact. You also know the stakeholders that are most important in the field.

We expect you to have a suitable higher education degree; a master’s degree is considered an advantage.

We work closely as a team and have a strong focus on communicating the results achieved and co-operating with Finnish and international stakeholders. As a result, strong teamwork, communications and public-speaking skills in Finnish and English are an advantage for the position. In addition, we appreciate experience in EU policymaking in the field of climate change and/or biodiversity as well as expertise in sectors that are significant for biodiversity, such as land use or use of natural resources.

We also appreciate experience and expertise related to the mitigation of climate change and industry, business or financing knowledge. We expect you to have a good command of the usual IT applications (MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel).

What we offer you

We offer you an enthusiastic work community of professionals, diverse and ambitious tasks that aim to make a change, interesting co-operation possibilities and the opportunity to take part in building a sustainable future.
