Kimmo Jarva

Mayor, City of Lappeenranta

Kimmo Jarva has been the Mayor of City of Lappeenranta since December 2011. Previously, a mayor of Vihti in Uusimaa. Mr. Jarva has 23 years of experience in the civic sector in a governing capacity in seven different municipalities. Kimmo Jarva holds an MA degree in administration.

As a Mayor of City of Lappeenranta, Kimmo Jarva has raised climate and environmental issues together with resource wisdom road map as key strategic issues in the strategy implementation. Lappeenranta has been named as the Finnish Climate Capital of the WWF Earth Hour City Challenge in 2014 and 2016. Environmental technology employs 3,000 people in South Karelia and industry is growing fast. The city, Lappeenranta University of Technology and companies work in a strong interaction in the local Green Energy Showroom network.
