Learning materials on sustainable everyday life and the circular economy for primary schools

Sitra and the Finnish National Board of Education are seeking innovative ways to teach the ABCs of sustainable everyday life and the circular economy in primary schools.

Challenge

According to the Finnish Government Report on Medium-term Climate Change Plan, Finns should cut their carbon footprint in half by 2030. Schools and education play an important role in achieving this target. At the moment, there is hardly any teaching material on sustainable everyday life and the circular economy available for primary school pupils.

Solution

In autumn 2018, the Finnish National Board of Education and Sitra launched a tendering process (link in Finnish) with the aim of sourcing and developing teaching material on sustainable everyday life and the circular economy for third- to sixth-grade primary school pupils. The solutions must be compliant with the current core curriculum, support phenomenon-based learning and support the work of teachers.
