Replace rice with a domestic alternative

Did you know that eating barley reduces the risk of diabetes? Or that potato contains magnesium and vitamins B and C? Barley and potato are domestic alternatives to rice and they have plenty of nutrients and taste.

Remember this: If you’re accustomed to eating rice, it may take a little time to get used to eating barley and potato. However, barley in particular is a very good substitute for rice in many dishes.

Reducing your carbon footprint: Replacing rice with barley or potato three times a week reduces your carbon footprint by the equivalent of 60 kilometres of driving. The savings come when the greenhouse gases caused by rice cultivation decrease and you eat local food rather than products transported over long distances.
