Sitra’s investments Q3/2020

Review of investments in January-September 2020.

Published

The market value of Sitra’s investment assets was 907 million euros on 30 September 2020 (942 million euros on 31 Dec. 2019). The first payment of 33.3 million euros to further capitalize Finnish universities was made at the end of August. In December 2019 Sitra’s Supervisory Board decided to make a non-recurring donation of 100 million euros to universities. The payments will be made gradually over three years.

In the third quarter, the return on investments was +5.8 per cent and in January-September +2.3 per cent. The strongest returns were generated by investments into Finnish equities.

A second wave of coronavirus is underway in several countries and measures to contain the virus have been reintroduced. Vaccine development is progressing across the world, but expectations of fast and largescale vaccination have vaned after summer. The U.S. presidential elections and Brexit negotiations increase the risk of extreme market volatility.
