The Center for Knowledge and Innovation Research (CKIR) of the Helsinki School of Economics (HSE) Business organises, in co-operation with Sitra, an international top level conference under the theme, Leadership and Governance Innovation.
The conference, now organised for the tenth time, convenes some 200 top researches and decision-makers from private and public sectors around the world to join in an in-depth dialogue.
”Matters related to leadership and governance are currently among the major challenges in reforming the Finnish society,” says Sitra Fellow Timo Hämäläinen.
This means that the theme of the conference is extremely topical: the radical change in the world economy currently in progress calls for new ways of leading and organising enterprises, public sector governance and NGOs, as well as the co-operation networks between them. In the new operating environment, old operational models and structures no longer lead to development that would be sustainable from the economic, ecological, or well-being perspective.
”It is critical for the functioning of the entire society how the economic and social processes are organised. As societies and the world have evolved into more complex entities, one must also have the courage to reform the leadership of societies and economies,” Hämäläinen says.
The main speakers of the three-day event include Esko Aho, Executive Vice President, Corporate Relations and Responsibility at Nokia; Jorma Ollila, Board member of Shell and Nokia; Bengt Holmström, Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; John Naisbitt, bestselling author and futurist; Ikujiro Nonaka, a renowned expert in knowlege management; Tom Bentley, ex-Director of DEMOS, arguably the most important idea incubator in Britain; Mikko Kosonen, Sitra’s President; and with him, INSEAD Professor Yves Doz, author of a book on Fast Strategy; Antti Peltomäki, Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for the Information Society and Media at the EU; Geoff Mulgan, Director of the British Prime Minister’s Strategy Unit; and John Kao, Harvard professor and innovation guru.
“We hope that the conference opens plenty of such new perspectives on the subject that we could also utilise in Finland when contemplating reforms of governance,” Timo Hämäläinen concludes.
