We are living in the middle of the sixth mass extinction. Ecological reconstruction is a matter of urgency. In addition to mitigating global warming, we must find solutions for slowing down biodiversity loss and reinforcing the vitality of nature. We want to develop and apply these solutions in Finland and export them to the global arena. Achieving this involves using a wide range of tools: looking into technical solutions, legislation and economic steering methods that make it possible to change the operating models and structures in society and thus create preconditions for future sustainable well-being.

Sitra’s Climate solutions project has promoted climate actions since 2018. We have achieved a lot but there is still much more to be done.

As of 1 July 2020, our team has refocused its activities, concentrating now not only on climate solutions but also on biodiversity loss. The new name of the team is “Climate and nature solutions” and we are now looking for a Leading Specialist for fixed-term employment until 31 August 2022.

Your task will be to co-ordinate the team’s work on nature solutions in co-operation with the Project Director. In this position, you will be responsible for the planning, steering and execution of various reports and studies related to nature solutions and for communicating their results in co-operation with other team members and external partners.

What we expect from you

To work successfully in the position, you must have in-depth expertise in biodiversity and in the application of related information in societal decision-making. For example, you have experience of societal impact assessments, economic analyses or the ways in which different steering methods can be used to resolve biodiversity loss. You have led the preparation of demanding reports and analyses and have experience in successfully communicating their results.

You also know the stakeholders that are most important in the field and you already have extensive networks both in Finland and internationally. Strong teamwork, communications and public-speaking skills in Finnish and English are absolutely necessary for the position.

We expect you to have a master’s degree.

In addition, we appreciate knowledge about EU decision-making in the field of climate change and/or biodiversity as well as strong sectoral expertise in land use or the use of natural resources from the perspective of biodiversity. We also appreciate business knowledge.

What we offer you

We offer you an enthusiastic work community of professionals, diverse and ambitious tasks that aim to make a change, interesting co-operation opportunities and the chance to take part in building a sustainable future.
