Sitra is adopting a new English-language name. As of 1 January 2007, the new name in English, Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund, will replace the previous name, which was the Finnish National Fund for Research and Development Sitra.

– The new name reflects more accurately Sitra’s current status and operations. From the beginning of 2007, Sitra will also launch a new unit, which will continue the work of the recently completed Innovation Programme. This will ensure that the overall development of the Finnish innovation environment and the related international networking activities become a permanent organisational feature in Sitra, says President Esko Aho.

The Director for the new unit will be appointed in early 2007.

Sitra’s official name in various languages

  • Finnish: Suomen itsenäisyyden juhlarahasto Sitra or Sitra

  • English: Sitra, the Finnish Innovation Fund or Sitra
