“Sitra’s Board of Directors has selected five new programme topics for preparation. Following a preliminary study, two of the five will probably be selected as actual programmes. One of the new programmes is scheduled to start in 2009, while the others will start in 2010,” says Sitra’s Executive Vice President Mikko Kosonen.

The topics selected for further study are: development of public sector management systems, rural livelihoods, the availability of labour, the Baltic region and child welfare.

Work on identifying new programme areas began last spring. Sitra’s stakeholders were able to propose topics important for Finland’s future. Several hundred proposals came through the Sitra website, and the most consistent themes which emerged were developed further into proposals to be submitted to Sitra’s Board of Directors. Preparation will continue after the summer in cooperation with stakeholder groups. The Board of Directors will decide on the new programme topics during the autumn.
