Miika Korja

Miika is part of Sitra’s Climate and nature solutions team and focuses in particular on biodiversity and climate questions.

Miika first encountered environmental issues while studying in India in the United World College programme on a Finnish Cultural Foundation scholarship. He served as a chief fire officer for the college’s fire brigade, which was responsible for protecting the valuable Van Vihar Biodiversity Reserve against wildfires. From India, Miika’s journey continued to Bolivia, where he worked in ecotourism in the Amazon.

Miika holds a bachelor’s degree in Policy Science from Leiden University College The Hague and a master’s degree in Environmental Policy and Regulation from the London School of Economics.

During his time in London, Miika worked for three years at Affirmative Investment Management, the world’s first dedicated green and social bond fund management company. Most recently he worked for the OP Financial Group, focusing on the environmental, social and governance aspects in corporate finance.

What else?

When not at work, Miika enjoys sport and reading and loves hiking.

Miika strongly believes that, in the next few years, the focus of the climate debate will increasingly shift towards biodiversity as we learn to better appreciate its value.
