Timo Mäkelä

Timo Mäkelä is Director – International Affairs, LIFE and Eco-innovation – in DG Environment, European Commission. He has previously held a number of management posts at Finland's Ministry of the Environment and has also served as a head of department at the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Water Affairs in Botswana. His previous responsibilities include a three-year term as Director for Municipal and Environmental Infrastructure at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in London. Since 1996, Mr Mäkelä has been employed by the European Commission as Head of Unit and Director for Sustainable Development and Integration of DG Environment. He is also Head of the European Commission Representation in Finland.
