Timo Mäkelä is an expert in environmental policy and management, finance, sustainable development, clean tech and green growth.

A diverse career has seen Timo Mäkelä protecting water in Botswana and giving environmental advice to the Chinese government. He has also worked on municipal and environmental finance for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and held several senior management positions in the European Commission. These include sustainable production and consumption, ecoinnovation and related financing, the environmental aspects of international relations and the negotiations for the UN sustainable development goals. Currently Mäkelä is a Senior Advisor at Sitra on issues related to the resource-wise and carbon-neutral society as well as the circular economy.
