Tokutaro Nakai

Director-General for Environmental Policy, Ministry of the Environment, Japan

Tokutaro Nakai has extensive work experience in Ministries.

He first entered the Ministry of Finance. Mainly working at Budget Bureau, he moved to work at the Toyama prefectural office. During his work there, he also helped promote studies on the Japan Sea. After that, he served several prominent positions such as Director at Public Relations, Financial Bureau planning officer, and Budget Examiner in charge of budget of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. He was then transferred to the Ministry of the Environment. He also held several eminent director positions in the Environmental Policy Bureau, Policy Planning Division, the Budget and Accounting Division, Minister’s Secretariat, the Personnel Division, Minister’s Secretariat, and the Waste Management and Recycling Department.
