The planet and us (summary)

Summary

There is already a huge amount of information on different aspects of One Health, but there is still a lack of awareness of the subject. The aim of this publication is not to add new facts to the flood of information but to synthesise the mountain of data in a way that promotes understanding.

To mitigate the ongoing climate change, natural disasters, environmental pollution, microbial threats and other problems we face, we need publications that bring together the data on these phenomena and a holistic and systematic approach to understanding them.

We probably already have the knowledge and know-how we need to mitigate global warming, for example, but there is a lack of policy and action.

The publication brings together information on the nature of the crises we face, the interconnectedness of the problems and the need for a holistic approach. It describes the threats to One Health and the trends that have led to them, and discusses existing solutions and future actions – where we need to focus our attention in the future to mitigate the threats.

The publication is aimed at anyone interested in One Health issues who needs accessible information from different perspectives. It is particularly suitable for upper secondary school students and can be used as general and in-depth study material.

The publication available in Finnish has been compiled and published by One Health Finland (a non-profit association) as part of Sitra’s Health Data 2030 project.
