The General Data Protection Regulation is now the law of the land. European companies –and companies doing business in Europe –must live within its rules and confines.

Some say this has brought competitive advantage to Europe –providing a human-driven framework to European data use and giving European companies a competitive edge in a fast-growing field. Others say it has ground European data businesses almost to halt –putting too many restrictions on business in the digital age and driving key investment and innovation elsewhere.

At this high-level seminar leading startups, top-drawer regulators and think tankers will brainstorm on the next steps needed for Europe’s data economy. How can we turn the new framework into a win-win for citizens and businesses alike? The debate at this high-level seminar will feed directly into the Policy Brief on the European Data Economy, being prepared by the Lisbon Council and Sitra for the Finnish Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2019.
