Impact on sustainable behaviour: Case COVID-19

The COVID-19 health crisis has been a disruption of everyday life in Finland and across the world. While it has caused great damage, could it potentially also generate favourable long-term changes in our behaviour?

In the spring of 2020 our lives were heavily disrupted by an external crisis. Abruptly we had to rethink our routines, break habits, and adjust our lives to follow the given restrictions.

Some of the changes will be temporary and return to their previous form in post-crisis time. However, some of the changes may last and become long-term habits. They have potential to represent seeding ground for more lasting change towards a more sustainable good life. The Lifestyles after lockdown report launched at this event highlights findings related to the impact of the crisis on the values, attitudes and behaviour of city dwellers in Finland.

In this event, we explore the possible long-term behavioural changes that the crisis has generated in the areas of home, city life, work, travel and food. The key findings from Sitra’s study Lifestyles after lockdown will be discussed with both the study authors and other experts.

The language of the event is English.
