Green to Scale: Climate Solutions from Nordic Cities

Cities are key players in tackling the global climate crisis. But what are the most effective and cost-efficient solutions for emissions reductions in cities and communities? How far could we go simply by scaling up already proven climate solutions?

Green to Scale is a series of projects that have highlighted the potential of scaling up existing climate solutions. In 2015, the project looked at 17 solutions from five sectors and around the globe. In 2016, Green to Scale focused on 15 Nordic solutions. In 2018, Nordic Green to Scale for Countries analysed the potential of climate solutions in several countries in Europe and Africa. Previous phases have uncovered a vast emission reduction potential at affordable costs simply using solutions proven to work and readily available.

The latest project, Nordic Green to Scale for Cities and Communities, finds that if other Nordic communities implemented 14 selected solutions to the extent that their leading peers already have, it would cut annual emissions by half of what Sweden currently produces – and bring savings to the communities. Learning from the communities that have already deployed these solutions helps in removing barriers and allows us all to move further and faster.

The event titled Green to Scale: Climate Solutions from Nordic Cities focuses on summarizing and discussing the analysis and its key learnings. It offers concrete ways to accelerate climate action, introduces policies required to boost action, and showcases benefits and business opportunities that accelerated action can bring in the context of the Paris Agreement and the IPCC 1.5 report.
