Stephen H. Friend, MD, PhD,  President of Sage Bionetworks

Dr. Friend is a world leader in efforts making large scale, data-intensive biology more openly accessible to citizens and the research community in order to accelerate scientific progress (http://www.whitehouse.gov/champions/open-science/stephen-friend,-m.d.,-ph.d.). His major research interests include e.g. open access platforms for building disease models, bionetwork models of disease, tumor suppressor genes, molecular pharmacology, and genomic approaches to drug discovery. Currently Dr. Friend is President and Director of Sage Bionetworks (http://sagebase.org/), a non-profit organization whose mission is to redefine how complex biological data is gathered, shared and used utilizing open systems, incentives and norms.
